PS/2 Cables

PS/2 cables are used to connect computer keyboards and mice to the PS/2 ports on a computer. They are named after the PS/2 interface, which was developed by IBM and became a standard for connecting input devices to computers.

PS/2 cables typically have a small round connector with six pins or a mini-DIN connector on both ends. The purple-colored connector is used for connecting keyboards, while the green-colored connector is used for mice.

One end of the PS/2 cable plugs into the PS/2 port on the computer, and the other end connects to the corresponding PS/2 port on the keyboard or mouse. These cables transmit digital signals between the input devices and the computer, allowing for the transmission of keystrokes and mouse movements.

PS/2 cables are known for their simplicity and reliability. Unlike USB connections, which can support multiple devices through hubs, PS/2 connections were typically limited to one device per port.

However, with the advancement of technology, PS/2 connections have become less common. Most modern computers and laptops are equipped with USB ports that can be used for connecting keyboards and mice, which offer more versatility and compatibility with a wide range of devices.

It’s important to note that if you have older devices with PS/2 ports, you may still require PS/2 cables to connect keyboards or mice to those specific devices. However, for most modern systems, USB is the preferred and more widely supported option for connecting keyboards and mice.
