SCSI Port Cards
SCSI (Small Computer System Interface) port cards, also known as SCSI expansion cards, are hardware devices used to add SCSI connectivity to a computer or server. SCSI is an older interface technology that was commonly used for connecting storage devices, such as hard drives, tape drives, and optical drives, to computers and other computing systems.
In this image, we see a selection of SCSI port cards with different connector types and configurations. These cards are designed to be installed inside a computer’s expansion slots, such as PCI or PCIe slots, depending on the card’s form factor. Once installed, they provide one or more SCSI ports, allowing users to connect SCSI devices to their computer or server.
SCSI port cards were popular for their reliable and high-speed data transfer capabilities, making them suitable for demanding applications and data-intensive tasks. However, SCSI has largely been replaced by newer and faster interface technologies, such as SATA (Serial ATA) and SAS (Serial Attached SCSI), in modern computers and storage systems.
Despite their decline in popularity, SCSI port cards may still find utility in specialized environments or legacy systems that require support for older SCSI devices. Additionally, certain industries and professionals with existing SCSI-based infrastructures may continue to use these cards to maintain compatibility with their legacy equipment and data storage solutions.
