1. Overview For variousflat panel display technologies, TFT-LCD(Thin FilmTransistor-Liquid CrystalDisplay) technology dominatesthe flat panel displaymarket due to itslowoperating voltage, low power consumption, long life, no radiation and low cost characteristics. The driving systemofthe TFT-LCD panel consists of a gate driverGD (GateDriver), a source driver SD(SourceDriver) and a timing controller T-CON(Timing Controller). The T-CONconvertsthe sync controlsignal and data signal received fromthe signalsource to specific inputsignalsrequired by theGDand SDrespectively, and sendsthe data signalto each SDthrough the interface protocol.Asthemainstreamdisplay technology, TFT-LCDis developing towards a large screen, high resolution and high color depth, resulting in a dramatic increase in the amount oftransmission data . The performance ofthe interface protocol is directly related to quality ofthe display. Therefore, for various TFT-LCDdisplay technologies, the interface protocol isthe key pointto determine whetherthe data signal between T-CONand SDcan be transmitted correctly. In response tomarket demand, the interface protocol has developed forthree generations. The first generation uses TTL or CMOS levelsto transfer data in parallel. The second-generation interface protocol adopts a multi-drop busstructure oflow-swing differentialsignaling and serialtransmission. The third-generation interface protocol uses a point-to-point architecture, the P2P architecture, where the T-CONand each SDare transmitted by separate differential data pairs. In addition to retaining the advantages ofthe second-generation interface protocol, the point-to-pointstructure greatly reduces the number oftransmission lines, and the signal line impedance is not affected by SDloading. These advantages ensure data transmission stable and reliable based on the point-to-pointinterface protocol, and they supportlarge-size, high-speed, high-resolution, and high-color depth TFT-LCD.
